What sort of activities will there be?

We already have a range of activities such as:

Out of Hours Learning

• Astronomy Club
• Athletics, Gymnastics, Judo and Table Tennis
• Dance
• Environmental Projects
• Extra Tuition
• Homework Classes
• Music
• Outdoor Education
• School Productions
• Supervised ICT Work
• Soccer, Rugby, Hockey and Cricket
• Trampoline
• Netball and Basketball

All of these are linked to The Venerable Bede Challenge and The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. Most of these activities are free. Where a small charge is made, it is to cover the fees of a specialist instructor or for materials.

Wraparound Childcare

We can now offer working families, guaranteed, paid for, childcare between 8am to 6pm daily.

• Breakfast 8am to 8.30am
• Tea-Time 3pm to 6pm

We have a purpose built centre on the school site - B-FREE - which was designed by students right down to the coffee-bar layout, quiet study area and 'chill zone'.

Students can enjoy a healthy breakfast and tea-time snacks in relaxed surroundings. To cover refreshments and staffing costs there is a fee of £5 per day (£2 for breakfast only and £4 for tea-time only).

Holiday Clubs

During the school holidays there is a range of interesting activities or an opportunity to relax with friends at our B-FREE centre. This will be split into morning, afternoon or all day sessions and run as an extension of our wraparound childcare. Rates for the holiday clubs will vary according to activities in place. Students can attend regularly or special theme days such as Stage School or The Stadium of Light Football Academy. Details are announced in advance and apply to all school holidays except the Christmas break.

Summer School

A week of exciting activities and trips open to students in the summer holidays just before they start school in year 7. This gives them an opportunity to get to know the school, staff and begin to make friends. Details of the summer school programme and application forms will be available as part of students transition from primary school.

Community Learning

We are proud to be a school which is very much part of the community and as part of our commitment to education we have developed a range of Community Learning and Family Learning Events.

Classes have involved people of all ages and across a wide range of topics such as Salsa Dancing, An introduction to Computers and Holiday Spanish for beginners.
