Subject summary: Year 7 RE & Citizenship Programme of Study

In year 7 students cover a variety of units and topics that introduce them to thinking through RE in Key Stage 3. They work in groups and as individuals, extending their ideas and skills in the light of people’s beliefs and practices. Students are encouraged to think for themselves and justify their opinions and ideas with evidence. We use writing, stories, music, drama, artwork, visits, visitors, and ICT to stimulate and extend all students.

Units in year 7:

  • Where do we look for God?
  • Introduction to World Religions
  • The Five PiIlars of Islam
  • How and why do people worship?
  • Holy Books 1

Subject summary: Year 8 RE & Citizenship Programme of Study

In Year 8 students study themes connected to religions, mainly Christianity, but including other world religions. Topics include the resurrection and incarnation of Jesus and the relevance these beliefs have for the modern world, assessing the impact of Holy Books such as the Bible and the Qu’ran on society, and examining the role of a place of worship in a local community. Students examine the role of the media in society, the causes and effects of crime, and issues concerned with domestic abuse. Students explore ways of resolving conflict, and take part in relationships and sex education.

Subject summary: Year 9 RE & Citizenship Programme of Study

In year 9 students study a range of topics to help prepare them for life as citizens in school, the local, national, and international communities. We cover personal, social, and health issues such as bullying, mental health, drugs and alcohol awareness, as well as national and European government, human rights, and diversity in society.

Subject summary: Year 10 RE & Citizenship Programme of Study

Year 10 sees a time where CREd students study themes for their RE-GCSE, which they will sit in June later this academic year. Focused study is connected to two religions, Christianity and Islam.

Topics include Issues of Life - examining topics such as when does life begin and genetic engineering. Drug abuse, assessing the impact of Crime and Punishment and examining Wealth and Poverty in today’s world.

Focusing in this subject in year 10 will see students gaining valuable success in one of their first achievable GCSE’s.

Subject summary: Year 11 RE & Citizenship Programme of Study

In Citizenship Studies students undertake a research based project as part of their work experience to develop their knowledge, understanding and awareness of citizenship issues. They learn about the institutions in society and how these work, and how rights and responsibilities are promoted and protected in this country and around the world. They develop skills of participation, reflection and responsible action.
